Want to upgrade but not sure how

My current system is Q6600, 4GB ram and a ATI 5870 but apparently my other compents bottleneck my gpu but which components do they mean ram, cpu or something else?

I would recommend going to passmark, grab the benchmarking tool and run it. It will show you how your system performs and allow you to compare it to other similar systems, or some that may rate higher and possibly give you an idea of what you need to address.

Using that same tool, I have a 2430 score with a Core i5-750 and that same video card. That should give you a basis for comparison against another quad core.

well on version 6.1 i get 1200 so a huge difference assuming they use the same grading system
