Need help troubleshooting

I have had my computer for 2 years now. Today I was playing a game and then got a black screen/lock up. Rebooted the computer and went to bios cpu temp was at 66C. So I unpluged everything and then took off the fan and changed the thermal grease. Hooked it back up and I turn it on and nothing blank screen. My video card and other fans sound like they are at 100%. So that leads me to belive that my CPU died. Any advice on maybe some other solutions??

AMD Phenom 9850 BLACK EDITION 2.5GHz
ASUS M3A79-T Deluxe AM2+/AM2 AMD 790FX
