Hello,
Hope anyone can help.

I bought Crucial Ballistix 4 x 1 GB 240 pin Dimm DDR2 PC2-8500 for my Deminsion 5100 as an upgrade.

The computer doesn't boot at all and I get some error bleeps.

I'm unable to work out from the manual what the bleeps mean.

I thought the memory would be backwards compatible with PC2-6400 wich is supported by this computer but now it doesn't work i'm not sure anymore.

Can anyone shed some light on this please?

Thanks very much

Did you use crucial's "memory configurator" software on their website for your specific dell system? If not, then you may be out of luck. Dell boards can be picky about ram, and dell rarely goes to the trouble of updating a bios for any of it's systems. Oem boards are different from off the shelf boards by asus, gigabyte, msi, etc. Those companies and most others will address ram and cpu issues with bios updates, but dell, gateway and hp rarely do. They aren't designed for upgrading; they would rather have you buy a brand new system.
