The Canon software is rather crude by comparison.
I personally prefer Capture One to Photoshop's RAW conversion, but some feel
just the opposite. ALL (in my experience) prefer either of these to Canon's
RAW coversion. About the only thing I use Canon's RAW converter for is to
quickly extract jpeg files from imbedded RAWs for quick viewing after
capture.

Capture One reads the raw files from a 20D? DO you use Pro or LE?

AFAIK the Adobe Camera RAW plug-in does not *officiall* fully support
20D RAW yet (?)

The new OSX version is available now. The Windows version is supposed to be
released at the end of this month.

I asked a similar question just a few weeks ago and most of the responses
favored either Photoshop or Capture One. I don't have Capture One and last
time I checked their web site it said that the next release would support
the 20D. So, the current release apparently does not support the 20D.
The program that I currently favor is Photoshop, it has more flexibility
than the Canon Digital Photo Professional program. If you do use Photoshop
make sure that you download their latest raw plug-in - while it does not
'officially' yet support the 20D it works just fine on the CR2 raw files.
The Canon program does work OK but I imagine that the only reason that they
make a program like this is first, because some of the major vendors like
Adobe do not yet officially support the 20D and second, not everyone who
buys the camera wants to spend extra money on a major photo editing program.
If you do use the Canon program (and why not try it, it is 'free' with the
camera!) be aware that Canon has just posted a version 1.5 on their web site
for download.

Correction to the above - I note that as of today a Capture One version *is*
now available that does support the 20D.

As stated above, I have not used Capture One but would be interested in how
others compare it with Photoshop?

I've tried the Big Four (Canon DPP, BreezeBrowser, CS RAW, Capture One) and I
feel I get more accurate colors more easily with C1. For sure the demosaicing
is slightly better with C1 than with CS RAW. Either CS RAW or C1 is a better
choice than the other two, for my needs.

I use LE and a 10D.
I believe Annika (Bret) uses Capture One with his 20D though...

Both PS and C1 are MILES ahead of the very poor Canon software...
Personally, I find the the workflow in C1 is more logical and accurate than
Photoshop CS. Admittedly, I have used C1 more though, so it could be that
familiarity is bringing better results...so your results may vary. Bottom
line for me at this point is...I have both...and I rarely use CS for RAW
conversion.

No, I use ACR. I don't have Capture One (yet). You still got my address?

No time to check but it must be the Mac version according to an Email
I received earlier today:

V3.6 which is released for the Mac, and the Windows will be before Dec

all goes to plan.
