free tech support fried my external hard drive

Hello, for a couple of seconds I plugged in the wrong a/c adapter to my external hard drive. I unplugged immediately when I smelled plastic. I plugged in the right adapter and still smell plastic. I immediately unplugged. Is the hard drive ruined?
