i think with a 450w, theb est you could do is a 5770 which will play those games fairly well at a lower resolution. Resolution means more then anything for the performance of a GPU, so what res do you play at so we can make certain?

For any single GPU a high quality 550/600W is more then enough. You only need 650+ for Dual/tri/quad GPU's.

At that res the 5770 will do fairly well and be able to play most games though maybe not all on max settings.

If you really want to play the newer games ( more games will be coming out with DX11 too, like AvP at highest settings ) you would have to push for a 5850 and a new PSU, and probably spend 400ish give or take 50 either way to make that happen.

Get the 5770. I currently have two in crossfire and they work great. If you had a bit better power supply and a crossfire enabled motherboard then you could have the performance of a 5870 with 2x 5770s. I play AVP on max settings and its GORGEOUS. The game itself on the PC is great too, very atmospheric. I'm mid-way through the marine campaign, just beat my first Predator boss guy. Pick up a 5770 and enjoy!

the problem is my motherboard does have 2 pci express for xfire but it says one at x16 and 1 at x4 if x fired so is it worth cross firing

Kind of, you WILL see an increase in performance, but not enough to warrant another card IMO. Actually that may not be true, i think in crossfire they owuld both run at 4x? lol
