Need Help With Drivers

How bizarre is it that two desktop pcs develop corrupted drivers for the dvd/cd-rom? I have tried the following: uninstalling the drive and rebooting pc. The same driver reinstalls and the drive does not work. I have tried to update the driver, but it says that my driver is the latest. Please help. One pc is running Windows Vista (Gateway) and the other pc is running Windows 7-32 bit (Dell). Would appreciate any advice. Thank you.

So bizarre that I think it might not be the drivers, maybe some infection or faulty media if trying to read the same disk.

Thanks for your reply. I tried different cds in both drives so it wasn't a cd problem and I did in fact get a message saying that the drivers were corrupted.

Know what you need to find out is what is corrupting the drivers, malware of a sort maybe.

Other than reinstalling Windows, the only thing I can think of malware as mentioned. Try this:

Download, install, update then RUN the following programs:
1) Malwarebytes free version
2) Spybot Search & Destroy
