hey i am looking at a new cpu for christmas but i don't know what will work for my motherboard which is mcp61pm-gm p01-a0 AMI rev. a3

You can go with two cpus: am2 dual core 5800+ 3.0 89 watts is $60; or the quad core 9350e 2.0 for $88. Both available at starmicro as oem; heatsink extra. Your board has no bios updates listed on gateway's website and is limited to 89 watt cpus. No am3 support is listed.
