Computer via HDMI to HDTV

Wondering why my computers doesn't fit to the screen correctly? Unless I specially size it up to the screen using a weird resolution. I have tried this one two different TVs a Sony Bravia and a Pioneer. And with 3 separate computers. one was ATI and the other two are Nvidia's.

Isn't HDMI suppose to fit perfectly on the display similar to DVI?

are your ratio's the same? 16:9 or 16:10? I hook my laptop up to my HDTV 40'' via VGA. Sometimes it gets messed up when connecting and disconnecting. I have to mess with the settings and also the primary and secondary display.....
  2. It is 16:9 on my laptop. And the other two computers are small desktops. So that is the only display connected to them.
