Are you sure you want a PCI and not a PCIE card? The latest and greatest PCI cards appear to be the 9400GT, 9500GT and HD 4350. Both Nvidia cards should have at least a shader model 4.0 and the ATI 4.1. If you want a cheaper card the 8400 GS supports 4.0 and is ~$50 on newegg.

hi, i bought a geforce fx5200 128mb card that was pci-e, not knowing that my system only had pci slots, and i was wondering if i could get an adapter from pci to pci-e. also i would like to know if this card will support the shader 2.0. can you help? you seem very knowledgeable.

The 5500 fx supports 2.0 form what i can find. I'm sure there are pci to pcie adapter slots but its looking like they will cost you around $30 and you will also need that fx 5500 to be low profile in order for it to fit in the case as well as you having to mess around in the BIOS to get everything to work properly. Not the way to go, best thing is to return the 5500 and get a PCI card for best hassle free compatibility.
