I'm still running on an old Core 2 Duo E8500 E0 chip. It is overclocked from 3.16Ghz to 4.4Ghz (8x550FSB) on Noctua NH-D14 and Asus P5Q Deluxe. RAM is Corsair Dominator DDR2 OCd to 1100Mhz.
I know it is old I know that the motherboard only supports DDR2 etc and yeah I know I should upgrade
I managed to get hold of a C2Q Q9400 chip.
I did a comparison on the 2 processors stock performance on Intel's website and apart from the 2 extra cores and a lower multiplier there isn't anything really. See link. http://ark.intel.com/compare/33911,35365
Question is. Will I be able to OC the quad chip to an equivalent level that my current C2D processor is? If so what sort of speed should I aim for? I like sticking to high FSB (since the higher the better rule along with 1:1 memory ratio)
I've got a feeling that I won't be able to get even close the what I've got now nd I'm afraid of making a step backwards with the new CPU.
