6gb ddr2 or 4gb ddr3?

Hey guys, I'm still working on my build for PC and I was wondering if I should save money and get a 2gb stick (I have 4gb ddr2 800) and get 6 gb ddr2 800 or 4gb ddr3 for photoshop, gaming, video editing, and modeling with 3ds max + blender. :??:

(Am going to use an AMD Athlon II x4 640 3.0 GHz 2mb L2 Cache) :)

  1. It's not so much what you need, it's what your MOBO will use. Most of the current MOBO's are DDR3. Recommended RAM - Windows 32-bit 2X1GB, Widows 64-bit 2X2GB.

However, with 3ds max I would start with 2X4GB DDR3, and later you can add another 8GB. Those Apps if you are going to 'really' use them require a a lot of memory.

What MOBO do you current have for the Athlon II X4?

Still deciding to buy this. I have received the Athlon II x4 a few days ago, pondering on an am3 ddr2 motherboard or ddr3.
  3. I'm on a tough budget, haha. If I a Fourteen Year Old had a paying jobs like most people.

Should I stay with DDR2 for now because I'm on a tight budget?
