Hello all, I'm new to the community but have always heard to come here for advice. I am embarking on a first build journey and am looking for all of the advice possible. I want to build a system mainly to upgrage from this old 3.0ghz p4 1/2gb ram desktop to something I will not need to update for a couple of years. And if I do decide to upgrade I can sell this for a decent amount of money. I have been watching auctions and finding deals very cautiously, and have come across a few items so far. Let me know what you think and please offer advice on vid card, psu, and heatsink. As mostly everything else is already in the works.

APPROXIMATE PURCHASE DATE: This is a process buying parts as money comes in, expecting to be complete by end of April 2010.

SYSTEM USAGE FROM MOST TO LEAST IMPORTANT: surfing internet, gaming, downloading music and movies, ripping dvds and music, etc.

PARTS NOT REQUIRED: I already have a Logitech G35 headset($50 from coworker) and logitech g15 keyboard($40 craigslist) and g500 mouse($10 from coworker). ***I recently bought Intel QX9650 3ghz Core 2 Quad Extreme processor($250-ebay), Intel p45sg Extreme mobo($25 nib on ebay), and 4gb ddr3 corsair ram 1300mhz($10 on ebay).

PREFERRED WEBSITE(S) FOR PARTS: newegg.com, tigerdirect.com, ebay.com and whereever else the deals are.

PARTS PREFERENCES: by brand or type: Planning to buy CoolerMaster HAF932 case, not sure on cooler, looking at CoolerMaster v8 and a Hyper 212 by CoolerMaster open for recs.

OVERCLOCKING: Not immediately but will read on it and learn more, same goes for sli & crossfire. as the money comes i may be able to.

MONITOR RESOLUTION: Going for a 22" or bigger where 1900x1680 would be nice or better if I can afford.

ADDITIONAL COMMENTS: I like the 5870 vid cards, but do not have a preference as I mainly play AA2, L4D2, COD and Bad Company 2.

Please offer good suggestions with HD's, screens, psu, vid cards, and heatsinks, thanks so much.

All for $600?

Don't get the HAF 932, get the HAF922. Its bigger and has better cable management / cooling.

The screen is going to cost $200 so that leaves you $400 for the rest. The 5870 is $400 so that's out of the question.

I would look at a 5770, Seagate barracuda 7200.12, a cheap sata burner, and the hyper 212 for cpu cooling.

Thanks Whitefang, the budget is no more a factor as I just went out and bought this iMac 27" two days ago. Talking about having an electronics binge. Anyway, let me update what I have gotten and go from there. I have bought a Ultra x4 850w modular psu, I also got a sweet deal on 2 BFG gtx260 oc cards all for under $400. I still need help on a cooler for my qx9650 possibly overclocking it to 3.5 air only please. I need the best cooler for the money. And a ? for you, why the HAF922 instead of the 932, please go into a little more detail. And also the best bang for the buck on a hdd and dvd/cd burner. thanks so much for your help, whats the best bang for the buck on monitor too 23" and up. 5ms vs 2ms is it worth the difference in cost, whats best contrast? thanks in advance, and here is a list of all that I have right now.

Intel Extreme p45sg mobo
Intel Extreme qx9650 3ghz cpu
2 BFG 260 gtx vid cards
4gb ddr3 ram Corsair
Ultra x4 850w modular psu

lacking chassis, cpu cooler(air preferred), hdd, dvd/cd drive, monitor
