Compatibility of ide and sata hard disk

Hi everyone this will sound as a beginner to yall...but i'm really struggling to get through....
Coming to the question...
I have a P4 processor support board with an IDE hard disk... since my storage capacity of the hard disk is too low i have a SATA HDD with a converter (RAID Controller) set up in the system... Now i'm unable to create partition in the SATA HDD even though it physically visible only in the device manager...... pls let me know a detailed procedure of how to use my SATA HDD efficiently.... Pls struggling for the past 3 days........

What size is the drive?

Did you initialize the drive in disk management? If not, do that, then format, and then you can partition.
