PCI E-X16/X8

In the PCI-E slots, does it make a difference if it is X16 or X8? I'm looking to get a MSI 890GXM-G65, and the PCI-E slots run X8 if both are used. I'm looking at using 2 Radeon HD 6850's.

Other hardware to be used:
CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 965
PSU: OCZ Fatal1ty 550W
GPU: 2 Radeon HD 6850s
RAM: Mushkin DDR3 1066MHz 4GB(2x2GB)

Since crossfire itself is limited to x8 (x16 divided by two), I don't think that your question is necessary. But it's always better to ask than being ignorant. :D

Crossfire isn't limited to 8x. Why do you think they made the 890FX? You can do 3 way crossfire @ X16 on it. Whether crossfired cards run at x8 or x16 depends on the motherboard and how many pci lanes are available. As far as the original question, running those cards in X8 configuration won't hurt performance much at all. A few percent at most, but not enough to worry about.
