Hi all, thanks in advance for any advice you can provide.

My question is what would be a good choice to upgrade my RAM for an ASUS Crosshair Formula IV. I am thinking that I am being limited in my system stability by my current OCZ RAM, still working out the details on my OC in another post. Here is my current set-up.

CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 965BE@4.0(kinda)
Cooler: Corsair H100i
Mobo: ASUS Crosshair IV Formula
RAM: OCZ Black Edition 2x2GB OCZ3BE1600C8LV4GK 9/9/9/24/40/2T@ 1.65v
Video: XFX Radeon 5850x2 Crossfire OC'd 775/1125
HDD: OCZ Vertex II SSD 60GB
HDD: WD Caviar Black 1T
Case: CM HAF 922
PS: Corsair HX850
OS: Windows 7 Ultimate 64

With the CPU set to stock or even 3.8GHz the current RAM will run at 1600 8/8/8/24/40/2T@1.65v for benchmarks(Cinebench and 3DMark11), but not stable in Prime95.(But, my overclocking is a different issue, any help with that issue would be appreciated as well: http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/282712-29-almost-there-think-phenom-965be#bas )

My issue is that almost all of the high end Corsair and GSkill RAM on the QVL are obviously discontinued. So, what would be a good option for compatibility that is currently available. Hoping for 1866 CL 8or9.

Thanks.
Aaron

Sticking strictly to the the QVL isn't really necessary. The QVL is just stuff that Asus has tested in the M/B themselves and doesn't mean that other ram will not work. Just find some 1.5v ddr3 that match your color scheme and meet the speed and timing specs you'd like. Should be as easy as that.

On a side note, I doubt it's the ram holding your overclock back, but I'll head over to that other thread to comment on that shortly.

Thanks for the help micaouette. I thought so, but some have said in different posts things like '.....ASUS Mobo's like what they like.....,' or '...stick to the QVL to avoid problems...' so I just thought I would search out some actual successful Make/Models of RAM that people were using. Didn't really turn out that way... But again thanks for replying. Also it seems you were right about the RAM not holding me back...just updated that thread too. getting closer on that front..

Aaron.

Would still like to know if anyone has some RAM running very well at around 4GHz on the ASUS CH4 Formula. Thanks.

Well my g skill (2*2gb and 2*4gb) 1600Mhz ddr3 9-9-9-24-2t 1.5v runs perfectly on my sabertooth 990fx with my 955 clocked at 4.2Ghz N/B at 2800Mhz. What you need to keep in mind here is that the 890fx and 990fx are identical chipsets, our boards are very similar.
