CPU Drop in Question

A buddy of mine wants to know if he can drop in a Q6600 to replace his E5300 . He has an Emachines ET1831-03 with an EMCP73VT-PM. Will this board handle the FSB of the C2Q ? Currently rated at 800 fsb.

Nobody but eMachines TS can tell you that for certain. Even if you find someone with a eMachines that has done it, ... Unless they have the same model/Bios ...

If they are using some mainstream industry mobo, then maybe you can read the model # and verify the BIOS revision ... given that info, we can help (with certain authority) ... otherwise, all we can tell you is if it will fit in the socket (which is no guarantee)

Regardless ... your bud should flash his eBIOS w/latest revision.

so I found this info about the exact same board. keep in mind that the FSB on this ( E7400) wolfdale is 1066. it seems to me if they are building them with this chips as well as the e5300 then I would say the motherboard will support a Q9400

and the info keeps coming. so on Emachines website it gives the manual for this motherboard as the one for the emachines board.

now is it a stretch to say since this one that the emachines is based off of runs at 1333 that the Emachines board will run at that?? heres the point he has enough to buy a athlon II board and processor OR a Q9400.

Still no definitive answer though. You willing to say yes it will for sure work ? I'm not at this point. I still think he's better off with the x4 630. Let's continue to dig.

Well I give up. Mark , as we discussed last night let's move him in the direction of the Athlon. My spidey senses detect nothing but trouble regarding upgrading while using this mystery board.
