good day everyone.

APPROXIMATE PURCHASE DATE: 2-4 weeks

BUDGET RANGE: 1000-1200

SYSTEM USAGE FROM MOST TO LEAST IMPORTANT: planning to run a few virtual servers w2k8 + *nix (all for myself)

PARTS NOT REQUIRED: keyboard, mouse, monitor, speakers, OS

PREFERRED WEBSITE(S) FOR PARTS: none, cant find anything reasonable local, so have to ship anyway

COUNTRY OF ORIGIN: New Zealand

PARTS PREFERENCES: none

OVERCLOCKING: not right now

SLI OR CROSSFIRE: if needed

MONITOR RESOLUTION: 1280x1024, 1440x900, 1600x1200 - monitor yet to buy, most likely 19, maybe 21

ADDITIONAL COMMENTS: prefer a quiet PC during idle, when active doesnt matter. dont play latest games, but will not resist upcoming startcraft2 and diablo3, want to play them with no problems. will use dual boot win + *nix

I ve read other topic on saggesting a build, however there is a lot of new info to put it all together myself.

The only things that stand out to me are:
AMD Phenom II X4 Quad Core
2 or 3 x2Gb DDR3
Corsairs 750W TX / HX650W

couldnt decide on case - looked up silent, sound proof cases, they seem to come with front, rear, top fans, have no idea how quite that would be.

looked into hdd wd 640/500GB green/black one is quiter, other faster, what is the real difference?

GPU - hd 5750 1gb ddr5 got my attention, but do i need it for my purpose?

MoBo - Asus M4A79XTD EVO Socket AM3 ATX ATI 790X Chipset CrossfireX Raid - wrote this one donw because of raid and crossfire support. would it be better to use 2 cheaper GPU in crossfire instead of one HD5... series?

havent looked into cooling. if choose a case with 3 fans, is it enough? will need a CPU fan, have no idea about those

thank you for any help.

... sorry ... gonna need a 5770 (at the least)

... Not going with a widescreen LCD? Why ??

... 650W PSU is WAY WAY plenty.

HAF 922 is a great mid-tower case ... can't say if it is the very quietest, tho.
The CoolerMaster Centurion and ANTEC 300 are cheaper, but "good" cases.

Don't forget a CoolerMaster Hyper 212 cooler and Arctic Silver MX-2 Paste

You want G.Skill RipJaws CAS7 2x2GB DDR3 Dual channel kit (or 2x4GB)

Mobo looks fine.

i would prefer dual monitor to 1 very wide.

another reason for that MoBo - 4 dimm slots

you named 4 cases, that doesnt help to choose. i did look at HAF 932 and antec 900, which i found while browsing for silent.

i will keep an eye on SAMSUNG Spinpoint HDD, SSD on the other hand is only usefull for games, because it is too small for virtual PCs.

Go with the HAF-922 ... FAR AND AWAY *THE* most popular and most recommended case (around here, anyway) ... There are some very decent xases available for ~$54 USD, but the HAF-922 (at $79~$89) is ten times better (in every way) and often comes with free shipping (like the promo code that ends TODAY!).

Hmm the one you linked is a ddr3 1333 vs a ddr3 1600. I know alot of people say there isn't much difference between the two but for $5 bucks why not get he higher speed rated one. And yes I'm aware most boards will require you to """"overclock""" to get 1600.

The Cooler Master Haf922 is a very quiet case. Honestly I can't tell it's on when my tv is on.

Why are you buying 2 Caviar Blue drives? Quieter you say? You're better off just getting a 1TB spinpoint F3 drive.

review for
1TB spinpoint F3 - loud drive
WDC 640GB - very quite
that is the only reason

where do you see that Kingston 6GB (3 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10600) Triple Channel Kit is Socket 1366? to me it is 240 pin, ddr3 1333, 6Gb, cas 9

the CPU comes with a fan, is it enough without OC ? if it ll be fine, i can get a better cooler later
