I7 920/ ASUS P6T SE upgrade?

Right now I'm using it for an Asus P5Q with an e8400 @ 3.0GHz with a GTX 275. I was hoping to upgrade to an i7 920 with an ASUS P6T SE keeping the rest of my hardware intact. I chose the Asus because it's really the only brand that hasn't given me problems.

Minus the RAM, if anyone could recommend something good possibly. It supports DDR3 2000(O.C.)*/1866(O.C.)*/1800(O.C.)*/1600(O.C.)/1 333/1066. And I'd like to stay within or over 4Gb RANGE with a decent price. I'm currently using 4Gb of DDR2 5-5-5-18.

And... would my VX550W still be useful using an i7? It's been pretty solid so far, no problems with power.

I would not be upgrading at all were it not for troublesome render times when working with video. I do game as well, but it's not *as* important. But I don't have copious amounts of money, either.

If anyone could sort me out, maybe direct me in a good direction that would be great.

Welcome to the forums !!

Your existing rig is pretty much the same as I upgraded from to an i7 920 - I too chose the P6T SE mobo.

RAM - the i7's use triple channel memory - so when you buy a kit make sure its a triple channel kit. The board has 6 x DIMM slots so you will be looking at kits 3 x 1gb or 3 x 2gb DDR3.

Any way of going about the RAM situation without spending too much? I'd love to go triple channel, but it's already 500$ for the mobo/cpu.
