Video Card Upgrade

Can I upgarde an HP-Pavilion m9150f with a NIVIDA GeForce 8500 GT to a EVGA GeForce GTS 250 1GB? I understand I will need a 450 Watt power supply. What power supply do you recommend that will work with both the new video card and the m9150f?

  1. Hey SGP,

The most reliable power supply manufacturers are Corsair, Antec, Seasonic, and OCZ.
I would suggest this as an inexpensive option:

Are you committed to a GTS 250? If you want advice on this choice we would be glad to help here as well if you post your monitor info and what kind of games, etc you want it for.

This is a pretty good deal:

That one is a good choice IMO.

    There's also this one:

You could also look for OCZ and Corsair ones.

    Cheers!
  3. I'd suggest getting an ATI 5770 instead. They are cheap on Newegg ($130) and they have 1GB of GDDR5, Direct X 11 ready. you can also use three monitors on one card!
  4. The Earthwatts is a good choice, but that Thermaltake isnt quite on par with the other suggestions.
  5. Yep, the Antec is a very good deal indeed.

    Cheers!

I live in Canada so my choices are limited on components. For monitors I have a Samsung T240 and T240HD. I don not play games, and I am just trying to increase computers base score of 4.5 on the video.
  7. If you don't play, why do you want to score higher? o.O

No video card is going to change your life on regular windows/linux/mac browsing or video playback... That 8500 is enough for any non-gaming and non-pro-rendering interest IMO.

    Cheers!
  8. yeh, if you don't game, intergarted is fine, nevermind 8xxx seris. Stick with what you have, unless you plan on picking up a copy of Crysis.
  9. ^+1 .. I dont see a reason to upgrade if you dont game. The 8500 will run a 24' monitor just fine. Windows experience score means nothing. Its not really an accurate representation of your computer.
  10. Yeh, a 5970 quadfire, the second best possible setup at the moment, would score low cuase WE score uses the downclocked speed , and doesn't factor xfire.
