Poll: Help me decide on a memory config please.

My computer has two 2GB sticks of PC2-6400 for a total of 4GB of memory. I recently added two 512MB sticks of PC2-4200 which brought the total to 5GB of memory.

In case that's confusing, here's a diagram of the current configuration:

DIMM slot 1 -> PC2-6400 (2GB)
DIMM slot 2 -> PC2-6400 (2GB)
DIMM slot 3 -> PC2-4200 (512MB)
DIMM slot 4 -> PC2-4200 (512MB)
*I think this is the correct way to place them for a GIGABYTE GA-MA770-UD3

I'm running an AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition Deneb and two 250GB SATA hardrives in RAID 0 with Windows 7 64-bit.

What is the better configuration: 5GB of RAM @ 267MHz or 4GB of RAM @ 400MHz?

  1. My vote goes to the 4GB setup for 1) I'm not a fan of running 2GB sticks with 512MB sticks and 2) there is little to no benefit in going from 4GB to 5GB in that type of setup.
  2. 3) If you install the 5GB, this will run at 4200, not 6400. 4GB @800 is more that enough for today.
