i think the GPU (ASUS 8800 Ultra) is pretty much dead, i get horizontal squiggaly red lines in the bios and bue ones in windows.

and the PC will only start in safemode,

I have reloaded the drivers and cleaned the card out with no luck, does this sound like the GPU, i think it does

secondaly my system spec is:

Q6600 @ 2.8 Ghz
4Gb DDR 2 @ 800 Mhz
EVGA 680i mothboard

and i know nvidia are bringing a new 400 series out soon.

Im thinking i will buy a new GTX480 when its out but wait a while till i upgrade the rest of my system as the q6600 isnt that slow yet

rather than buying a £100 equal power card to the 8800, then upgrading the GPU again later

What do u guys think will give best value for money

After having a think i will go for an ATI 4890 now which will be around £130 and give me a performance boost of arounf 35% from the 8800, this will see me for a year or 2,

I cant justify buying a GTX480 when it will be bottle necked by my CPU which i cant afford to upgrade as well atm

also the resale value of the 4890 will be say £40-50 in that amount of time only costing me around £50 when i next get a mega card.

hope this is the best value for money action

Ok, we need to stop any and all Fermi debates for the next month, right here, right now. Nobody knows anything at all about Fermi. The ATI fanboys are free to say that it will produce the heat of a reactor, and the Nvidia fanboys are free to say that it will be the speed of 17 Cray supercomputers combined, but nobody knows the truth. We all need to realize that there have been no real, crediable 3rd party bechmarks yet, and nobody knows if it lose to a 4850, or be the speed of a 5970 quadfire. Nobody knows, and untill we do, we need to stop slaming/worshiping Fermi.

At, ^, the resale price of a 4890 is 100$ now, nevermind 30E in a few years.
