I have a PB IMEDIA J2589 and wish to upgrade the video card to an Asus EAH 4770, but am worried about compatability.

The new card has the following spec:

EAH4770Formula/DI/512MD5
Graphics Engine - ATI Radeon HD 4770 Graphics
Video Memory - 512MB GDDR5
Engine Clock - 750MHz
Memory Clock - 3.2GHz (800MHz GDDR5)
DVI Max Resolution - 2560X1600
Bus Standard - 128 BIT
DVI Output - DVI-I (Dual Link)
HDCP Compliant - Yes
HDMI Out - Yes Native
D-Sub Output - Yes 1x
Software bundled - ASUS Utilities and Driver

The old card has the following spec:

Model ATI Radeon X1650SE
Chipset RV516
Interface PCI-Express
GPU Frequency 635 MHz
Video Memory
Dedicated 256 MB
Type DDR2
Frequency 350 MHz
Bus Width 64 bits
Total Memory 512 MB (Hyper Memory)

Can I plug and play? If not, what can I need to do?

Thanks

you will not be able to just plug & play, you will need to remove the old drivers using Driver Sweeper and then install the new drivers for the 4770 once the old drivers are rid of.

Another thing to consider is whether or not your power supply can handle the 4770.

Thanks. I guess it is not as easy as it first seemed. I did ask Packard Bell technical support but they never got back to me. I'll check out the power supply.
