Inside screen broken laptop and disk read error

Hello,
I recently dropped my computer on the floor and "broke" the screen internally...So I hooked my Acer Aspire laptop to a monitor and now the only thing I see is a black screen and: "a disk error occured, press ctrl+alt+del to restart"...
Can anyone help me? I need to retrieve a massive amount of intel from my pc as soon as possible.

OPen it up and check your HD connections. Even try taking it out and installing in a desktop as a data drive to retrieve your data that way.

Was the unit runnig when it took the dive? A dropped drive while in operation is usually fatal.
