I’d like to build a good machine that can be used for HDV editing but will not be used for gaming. Any advice will be greatly appreciated. I'd like to keep the hardware cost below $2000.

Here is what I’ve already purchased:

Intel i7 930 and MSI X58 Pro-E (combo deal for $349)
Corsair XMS3 1600mhz 6GB ($169)
500 GB Western Digital drive (have this on hand and will use for Page file and Scratch)

Here’s what I’m planning to purchase:

Another 6 GB 1600mhz RAM ($169)
CoolMaster 922 tower ($93 no tax or shipping)
3 1TB Western Digital Black 64mb cache set up in Raid 5 ($357)
300 GB Velociraptor for OS and programs ($199)
GTX 285 graphics card ($365)
Corsair TX750W power supply ($109)
Need RAID Controller and CPU cooler advice

Total $1810 without RAID Controller and CPU cooler

Also need:
Win 7 Pro 64 bit
CS5 upgrade when it’s available

Thanks for any suggestions

Seeing as gaming isn't important, I take you will not be adding a second card, so you do not need a 750W PSU for a system with a single GTX 285. I'd say a 600W PSU would do.

Velociraptors are outperformed by modern 7200 rpm drives, so it's not really worth it, the best SSD that doesn't push the budget up too much is the Intel X-25M 80GB.

The Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus is one of best performing CPU coolers, especially considering it's price.

Can't help you with the RAID controller.
