I got a new Laptop Toshiba A30-921 today. I Switched it on as instructed.
I got it on for almost 4 hours by now. It shows lights on, but has not
started. Do I need to wait until the battery is fully charged or should it
work. I will be very grateful if anyone helps me in this regards

You should not need to wait for the battery to charge as long as power
is on. Are you sure you switched it on as instructed? How about
holding the power button down to turn it off, then turn it back on?

My girlfriend bought an ACER Laotop (with Centrino 1,4 Ghz) half a
year ago. Everything seemed to work fine for a few minutes, but after
a new restart the screen remained black (lights on). By looking
closer we dedected that the screen was on, but the backlight didn't
work anymore. We brought it back to the store and got a new one.
This has served very well so far.
Maybe it's that, you can see it under brigtht light.
Can happen to every brand (defect of the fluorescent tube).
