Sabertooth X58 with ATA harddrive recognition problem

Hey, I recently upgraded to a Sabertooth X58 motherboard, but I wanted to keep my old ATA 500GB hard drive as an internal drive if possible. Since the sabertooth only has SATA connections I bought an ATA to SATA adapter, but after hooking it up the computer doesn't recognize or see the drive at all.

  1. Seen this before, what 'adapter' are you using?

Also, a BRAND NEW 500GB HDD is ~$50 and old HDDs begin to throw a lot of errors, so there's no upside of Jerry-Rigging it to work. {Unreliable backup is NO backup}.

^It's crap - return it. Use the ~$21 to buy a new HDD.

I assume this is NOT on a AHCI and instead IDE in the BIOS. Does the '500GB' HDD show-up in the BIOS. and did you connect power to BOTH the HDD and the Adapter?

"Supports any type of SATA Device (DVD, DVD-RAM, MO, CD-ROM, CD-RW, Hard Disk, &.) 48 bits LBA can Break Capacity-Limit to Support HDD larger than 137GB Compliant with Serial ATA 1.0a specifications Compliant with ATA specifications Compatible with Ultra ATA 133 / 100 / 66 / 33"
