Dynex Thermal Compound

Hello all,

I'm sorry to clog up your overclocking forum with such an inane question; but, I am really concerned about my newly purchased parts (still in the mail:)). I purchased the AMD X4 black edition (the deneb? 3.4 GHZ model) to put on an MSI motherboard. My concern is that I did not purchase new thermal paste and have just realized that my Arctic Silver (or the early 2008 iteration of it) is over 2 years old and has been left out in the trunk of my car for extended periods of time :/

I have no intention of overclocking the system; so, I went down to best buy and bought the brand they had on-site (Dynex) assuming that it would handle the BONE STOCK settings that I intend to run the machine in. Needless to say, I am now having second thoughts on the matter and any guidance would be greatly appreciated. Should I trade up for the Arctic Silver?

I have pasted the exact parts I have purchased below. Again, I do not intend to overclock this system.

Also, to avoid making another thread, will my stock heat sinks and fans be adequate to run this system @ stock?

Thanks,

I choose to buy my HD at the local Best Buy along with the thermal paste out of concerns that it could be damaged in shipping, thus opening me up for an extended RMA process.

The HD is a Caviar Black 1 TB and is the 3.0 GB/S SATA variety. Model # is WD10000LSRTL

Great components!

Highly recommend that you but some new AS5 thermal compound - this is a known and proven product. And on this site, there are plenty of posts regarding the right way to apply AS5. Consider the fact that it takes quite a bit of time and effort to re-do the thermal compound if you use unknown compound and you run into a high temps issue.

I know that you don't intend to do any OC, but most people end up trying that anyway. It's good to keep that in mind.

Stock CPU cooling?

Good luck!

There may be a concern with one of your component selections, the ram. The package your selecting is for 3 chips which means you'll be running in single channel mode. That package is made up for a triple channel board but you can run only 2 or 4 chips in a dual channel board unless you intend to run in single channel mode.
Yes, trade up.
