Older CPU upgrade

Currently have an Intel core 2 4300 1.8 GHZ cpu and wish to upgrade. is any newer chip going to be an upgrade. looking to stay under $100 same socket type or would need to get a cpu/mobo combo.

im looking to upgrade to a new GPU and the older CPU will bottle neck any newer card that i get. will OCing the cpu help in that regard.

It will handle quite a number of cards unless you are going high end... Plus OC is free
Which card are you planning to buy?

either a HD 5770 or gts 250 and I don't want the CPU to bottleneck any newer GPU I get
