Last response: in CPUs

Ok so it's time to upgrade the computer, and once again I've been out of the loop. Last I knew, Intel had THE cpus to get. Now I'm not so sure anymore.

What is best for applications?

What is best for gaming?

Is there any benchmark charts to compare and contrast between the cpus?

I just need as much info as possible. I game a lot on my computer, but I'm also going to be doing heavy audio production as well. So I guess I need something that will be great doing both. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi newcomer and welcome to the Tom's hardware forum.

1- What is ur budget?

"BEST" could mean two things:

1- If ur problem isn't the money, best means a 2K or more rig.
2- If u want price, best means AMD

I've got about $600 to drop on a new system. That means motherboard, cpu, and RAM. I don't go for the crazy 2k builds. I'm more into buying the lower speed cpu's and overclocking them up.

Before I realized that AMD put themselves back into the cpu race, I was deadset on the i5-750. So I'd be looking for an AMD equivalent of that....if it performs better and cost about the same or less.

Well $600 is quite decent for a mobo+cpu+ram build.
AMD 1090T $309.99
Gigabyte GA890 FXA $179.99
G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 $109.99

Total - $599.97
