Lost all desktop icons

Hello,
I mistakenly sent all my desktop icons to the recycle bin. Ive tried to restore them and it wouldnt work. All the icons are still in the desktop folder though. Ive also tried to drag them out of the folder onto the desktop, but that wont allow me. Any ideas what to do? HELP!!!

Right-click the desktop and click Properties > Click the Desktop tab> Click Customize desktop > Click the General tab, and then click the icons that you want to place on the desktop.> Click OK.
