A decent mainstream general purpose build.

Hate the hard drive and you can get better DVDR for the $$$

SAMSUNG SpinPoint F3 500GB or 1TB 7200RPM (Both use faster 500GB platter tech .. cheap!)

SAMSUNG DVDR 22X ~$26

Also ... If you have no aversion to AMD ... we can shave ~$100+

CHeaper the better but i ordered it, but its still in processing which says i can change it.

Reply to cyproz

Naw ... you did plenty good ... just those two drives aren't "ALL THAT".

They'll do. Let it fly.

And, while my last statement is true ... I wish you had come to us, in the beginning because, if you had, we COULD have taken you in a completely different direction and "trimmed you out proper" (balanced cost performance).

I just really don't know how urgent your acquisition ... how patient you are ... if you would rather shave cost or to boost performance, for the same$$ .

... If you want to "play" ... if you have the time and the inclination to explore those options, then ... sure ... you can see how some of our best would do it.

We usually want to know exactly where your usage is at and where you intend to "go" with it, in coming years. We like to plot an upgrade path, based on your long term budget and needs and expectations. ...

... The simplest thing to do, just right off hand, would be to compare just the cost of the mobos+CPU because everything else, including the RAM and (often) even the cooler can remain exactly the same.

So "we" would look for a very comparable mobo and CPU ... you can view benchmark comparisons at the Anandtech tech site, on their CPu comparison tool.

So, for an AMD Socket AM3 "contender" CPU, I would look at a Phenom-II x4 955

Cooler would be a CoolerMaster Hyper 212 ... works w/all current CPUs (great!).

Mobo ... Figure $139 (minus $20 combo discount) for latest chipset/bells/whistles

Just to entertain yourself, while you wait for order confirmation.

I'm not sure for that amount of money, but its completly up to you. I would be able to get you a slightly better build for at least 300 dollars cheaper. I'm not sure where your buying this from, but I would just go to newegg.com

Reply to iholbrookv2

That is from newegg, well if you guys can build me a better gaming comp the limit is 1400 and do it quick before it charges

What you got will be good, next time or if you need an upgrade just post it on here. I mean you already ordered it and I don't want to mess with your order.

Reply to iholbrookv2

I just canceled it susscessfully, but i wanna order one tonight/tommorow morning, so lets make a build from newegg. Budget 1400$, pure gamage with some movie watching. I want to get that ASUS 23" monitor and at least a HD5850 or up

Would you be willing to do NVIDIA?

Reply to iholbrookv2

If you can show me some benchmarks or stuff to prove it would be better. I honestly dont know which was better i thought the HD58 series were. Now my plan with the 5850 was to buy that single one and later when i got more money add a second 5850. But honestly if nvidia is better then go for it, I wanna be able to play games like battlefield bad company 2 and modern warfare 2 on high with no lag. My last comp was SLI nvidia and that worked well.

I got the PERFECT BUILD I just built my computer and I play BAD COMPANY 2 MAXED out!

Reply to iholbrookv2

It's apples to oranges but someone did mention ATIs were more futureproof. I'm not sure why but I'm sure someone else can chime in with that.

Btw I max out every game with my XFX HD 5850 Black Series.

Dang, it's too bad there's no such thing as a 5890. And no, your PC sucked. if I or any other "Experienced" person was given that budget they would "blow" your PC out of the water. Go do some research first please.

GTX 260? Regor 250? 2GB RAM? WHY!!!! the 4870/5770 at $160 destroy the GTX 260 and they are DX11. The Rana 435 destroys the Regor 250 and it's only $10 more. 2GB RAM??? WTH? this is a gaming PC. not some crappy parts strapped into a nice PSU and case. Come on man.

Don't argue with FANG ... Don't second guess. FANG KNOWS ZACTLY what he's doing and will save you a bundle (or boost your performance for same $$$) ...

I do MY builds for "balance" and "all premium components" but fang knows just where to "shave-n-save" and also he knows every combo and discount and rebate in all of "eggdom" ... Trust that.

Not lazy like me, either.

http://www.overclockersclub.com/re [...] ull/12.htm

I would only ever take a 4870x2 or a gtx 295 I mean the gtx has been out longer then the 5870 anyways so your comparing apples to ------ ya I don't care anymore my build beats the sh** out of crysis and bad company2 thats all I cared about doing.

So the 3dmark of the gtx 295 is 13000

the 3dmark score of the 5870 is 15000

i'm done debating with you.

Reply to iholbrookv2

Well your stupid, the GTX 295 scores higher in 3dmark because it has two GPUS inside. That's pretty obvious. Your a retard.

*EDIT* Is it just me or does that link not have the 5870? o.O

I know I'm done arguing! I'm sorry I was wrong and I have a soft spot for NVIDIA because I've bought like 3 bad ATI cards and 0 bad NVIDIA cards in my life. Sorry.

Well your stupid, the GTX 295 scores higher in 3dmark because it has two GPUS inside. That's pretty obvious. Your a retard.

*EDIT* Is it just me or does that link not have the 5870? o.O

I'm sorry I was wrong about something I'm not perfect, but I will admit when I'm wrong. I have a soft spot for NVIDIA!

Hey, man ... I like nVidia (better) too but ... they ain't done squat for quite a while and they just admitted their last driver update started smokin' cards from coast to coast ... No DirectX-11, either ...

BTW ... the 295 and the 5970 both have dual GPUs (inside one card) ... you will also notice they can sport up to 2GB GDDRx ...

... young turks ... jeeesh !!
