hi iam new on pc's hardware
i want to upgrade my pc
i am a gamer by the way
i bought every thing except a CPU and motherboard
iam thinking about buying intel core-i5 750 2.66 8m and p55a-ud4
what do u think about these parts?
is there is an AMD or intel system better with the same amount of money?
please please advice

note that my other specs are
4g dd3 1600
GTX260
psu 800w

I've used the amd propus (3.1 ghtz overclocked) and the i3 530 (3.93 Ghtz overclocked) and the i3 is smoother and easier to overclock with the p55 chipset. The amd isn't bad; it's really a pricing issue. I live near fry's electronics so I get the motherboard almost free with their combos. The biostar boards I've gotten lately work as well as any from asus or gigabyte. If you're a gamer, budget for the video card and power supply first; the cpu is less important.

i5 isnt so good for the hardcore gamer with only its 16 lanes of pcie, dual card setups will drop to x8 links to both cards but the price is hard to beat considering the i7 version is another $100 just for the processor. If your only planning on a single gpu card i5 is a great choice in my opinion.

The i5-750 and the i7-xxx perform nearly the same (clock for clock) in gaming.

An 8x PCI-Express slot will see no more than a 2% loss on most games on a 5870. Remember, you are talking about a different chipset/socket along with CPU. The X58/1366 motherboard will cost a hefty premium over a P55/1156 board.

i5 is a great choice in a lot of high end instances.

However! OP:If you plan on using a GTX 260 for a while, you'd be wasting money if you went for anything more expensive than a Phenom II 955. At stock that CPU will run a GTX 260 to its max capabilities. Even an overclocked Athlon II X3/X4 should be plenty for a GTX 260.

I agree unless you are planning on adding another GTX260 at a later date an Athlon should be fine.

You want these specs? 4g dd3 1600 GTX260 psu 800w - so AMD is not for you. Well I use AMD for gaming - my intel for editing and engineering works. Your 800W what you want 2 cards? 700 is ok.
