I have a Teca 800 PII-366 that I'm trying to uprgrade the memory in.
Currently, there is a 64 meg DIMM and a 128 meg DIMM. I have read that 256
was the max, so I bought another 128, but the system hangs with the DIMM
installed, in any sort of combination or alone. Is there a specific type
of memory that needs to be used (i.e. CL2 or something) that I'm not aware
of? Also, would it be possible to use 256 meg DIMMS in this machine? I
wonder at the "published" limits, as Toshiba stated that the biggest drive
that would work was an 18 gig unit, while I just recently installed a 40
gig Seagate with no problems.

Any help would be appreciated.

A 256 should work in it, I believe I have one in my wife's machine. I
suspect your ram is either the wrong type or is flaky.

A quick search finds that the memory for this machine is spec'ed as PC100
only. Perhaps the OP purchased PC133 memory, which would give the symptoms
described, i.e. failure to BOOT.

So how the hell do you find PC100 only memory...I would thing PC100/PC133
would work, or is that just assuming too much?

Yep, that's a presumptuous assumption!

Finding the correct RAM is easy if you're willing to spend a few extra $$
for name brand memory.

Go to www.crucial.com and lookup your model laptop in their configurator.
Guaranteed to work.
