Well i was wondering which would help with latency and over-clocking;
filling up all 4 slots with 4 sticks of 2 gb for my phenom or should i only fill two slots with 2 sticks of 4 gb

and i was wondering if running higher frequencies will put too much stress on the memory controller

I pretty dead set on using 8 gbs, i like to edit video and i often have lots of windows open

THANKS FOR THE HELP!

ANS 2X4GB ; Dual Channel is most efficient than Quad Channel {Ch 0 -> Ch 1 -> Ch 0 -> etc}.

If you mean running 1800+ RAM then it requires the CPU to be OC; otherwise stock speed CPU + fast RAM = Unstable. When I mean OC 30%~40%+.

i would like to run a pair mushkins, 8gb 1600 and CAS 7, would i have to overclock to run these? i rather not overclock if i have to raise the voltages, other then that im fine with a bit of heat.

^those are discontinued sticks. I have NO WAY to no the ANS with knowing: 1. MOBO, 2. CPU. I do know 1800+ is the same for ANY MOBO/CPU combo, 1600 depends on what you've got.

oh dang, yeah as of late

so what would make a cpu or mobo a bit more friendly to the 1600 clock speed
i was just looking for a mobo that would support 1600 without the little OC behind it, like as if it was standard. The CPU, well any phenom 2 should do the trick no? 3 or 6 core no?

The AMD Phenom II series is fine for 1600, and the AMD Phenom II X6 are fine for 2000 {different memory controller} - the '1600 (OC)' is no big deal. ASUS M4A89TD PRO/USB3 and MSI NF980-G65 for example are without the 'OC'. Also, I would recommended an AM3 MOBO; it' ALL about the Budget.

Im looking for a mobo with an 8+2 phase design and i really like gigabyte's use of a bit liberal use of copper.

oh well looks like im going to be looking for some new mem
thanks for the help

Off the top of my head only the GA-890FXA-UD5 has the 8+2, and I 'wish' that was all there was to be concerned about -- I am NOT a Gigabyte fan. Gigabyte is, since I've been posting in this section, one of the most problematic MOBOs.

If you're not going the OC then 6+2 is more than adequate for a 6-core {the +2 is the RAM}, but if you're stuck on 8+2 and is solid then ASUS Crosshair IV Formula, but that MOBO is designed to OC everything {CPU, RAM, GPU}.
