Question is pretty simple, went back a few pages but didnt see anything that specifically. What CPU (and its respective parts) is better suited for gaming, the 955BE (C3) or i5 570? GPU will either be a 5850 or 5770. Budget is ~$1000. Thanks a bunch.

The Core i5 750 2.66GHz will be faster than the Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition at stock speeds, just by a bit. I'd go for a Phenom II X4 955 though because the CPU and the motherboards should cost less on average, which means you have more for money for other components, such as an HD 5850 instead of an HD 5770.

Like Lmeow says, the i5 750 will have a slight edge in gaming over the 955BE, a larger edge in most other benchmarks. The difference in price between the 750 and the 955 and comparable motherboards runs about $80 in favor of the AMD. Another factor in favor of the AMD is in potential upgrades since it can use the PhenomIIx6 and it's rumored that the next step for AMD CPUs the Bulldozer will be using the same AM3 socket. Intels next step in CPUs Sandybridge will use a different socket then the LGA1156.
If you're looking for a single GPU gaming solution the here's pretty comparable deals at newegg. If you live close to a Microcenter you may be able to get a much better price on the Intel CPU.

+1 Phenom II 955

Personally, I'd go with a 5870 with the saved money, and OC the crap out of the Phenom. :)

The i5-750 is the faster CPU, but you'll almost never notice in gaming with any of the single GPU 5 series cards, making the saved money dumped into the GPU worth it.
