I was planning on going single vid card, ATI 5870 maybe. I was looking at the I7 960 CPU and a nice ASUS 24" Monitor. But other than that I am not so sure. I am open to suggestions on anything. I have 4K to dedicate to a computer and monitor. I have everything else. I also have 4 raptor 150's but have no plans on any raid configuration. I haven't had a system since AGP back in 2006 so I am out of the game quite a bit.

I wouldnt suggest spending more than 2k on a system at a single time, if you spend 2k on one now and 2k on another one in 2 to 3 years you spend the same amount but end up with a far better system in the end. After you hit 2k you have rapidly diminishing return on investment. I would also suggest not wasting money on a 960, get a 930 and OC it, it will perform better for wayy less.

If you really want to spend 3K, the money is best spent on quality in other areas such as the case and PSU, which also are the longest lasting parts.

Defining more clearly what you want will go a long way in helping people choose parts for you.

Here is the way that I would spend the 3K

i7 930 and Asus and P6X58D Premium board -580
http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?Ite...

G.skill DDR3 6GB 1600 CL7 - 175
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

Corsair 800D case -300
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

Corsair 850HX PSU -170
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...
Enough to add a second 5870 if you get the urge.

Sapphire Vapor-X 5870 -420
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

Crucial SATA III 256GB SSD -680
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

Samsung F3 1TB -90
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

LG Blu-ray Burner -150
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

Noctua CPU cooler -75
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

Logitech G19 KB -177
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

Logitech G9x mouse -95
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

And then for the monitor I would get this at 24"
