I recently had the screen go red on me - and I was told that it was
the inverter board. Bought a new one of those - and the screen would
still turn red.
So - I was then told it was the screen. All throughoutvthis time I
could just about see the things that were being displayed - but
sometimes the screen would go blank. So I eventually got a new screen
- but now all I see is blank -- with the old and new screen.
I have tried 2 inverter boards - still the same. I can turn the
contrast up so that the screen is grey rather than black - but no
images.
I have managed to get the output on my TV - so the PC isn't dead. I
have also made sure that the cable is securely plugged in the back of
lcd screen.

A red or pinkish display on a 600 series machine is indicative of the
backlight failing.

Do you really mean to say that you got a new display from IBM? Or did you
buy a used display from eBay?
