Suspected CPU overheat

Hey guys,

Recently I built a new rig with the following specs.

core i7 930 no OC
asus p6t
HIS 5850 latest Catalyst
6G DDR3
Antec TP 750W
One intake fan, one exhaust fan

I've played ME2 and some Battlefield BC2 on it for hours straight without a problem for about a month.

However, about 1 week ago, the Battlefield would freeze after 1 hour of gaming, and this interval has been getting steadily worse.

CPU idles at 33-35C, but just opening up the game it reaches 52-53C. I suspect the system shutsdown automatically once it reaches 60C.

Any ideas as to the worsening and the cause?. My CPU is running a stock HSF.

More about suspected overheat
  1. What are your load temps running Prime95?
  2. it seems to remain stock around 62-ish.

all cores are around 7C lower.

    Maybe its not the Cpu?
  3. Have you dusted the graphics card and checked its temps? It could be you have accumulated enough dust in the GPUs fins that it is overheating now.
  4. the 5850 is only about 4 weeks old. I checked, no dust.
I'm running the 'blend' test on Prime95 atm, gpu temp is 37C
  5. Run memtest next and check/force the bios RAM settings. None of the CPU/GPU stuff sounds like a problem.

Doesn't seem like CPU over heating. CPU should not shut down at 60 degrees. It's actually quite normal to get temp to 52-53 or even 60 when running games.

What RAM and RAM settings are you using? I suspect it's the RAM.
  7. that looks like normal temps , get the same with my O/C 3.2GHz q9400
  8. Update:

Ran memtest - results all ok

Did some trawling of the EA forums - its seems to be a software side error with the game. A clash of Realtek HD audio and the game.
