Sparks comming out of 24 pin cable on motherboard

Hey guys i just got a new pc 2 days back with the following specs

Cpu intel core i7 920 @ 2.67ghz stock
cpu cooler stock
ram gskill i7 edition 6gb 1600mhz
pc case cooler master 690
psu cooler master gamming xtreme(gx) 650w
video card sapphire radeon hd 5870
motherboard gigabyte ud 5 usb3.0

so what happens is when i turn it from the back end of the psu suddenly my ups goes into battery mode some lights in my house go off some sound comes out from my pc i noticed sparks comming out of my 24 pin cable connected in my motherboard so is my pc finished

Sparks are never a good thing. Could be your PSU or CPU were defective when they arrived (I'd go with that story so you have a better chance at RMAs).

Like posted above, did you use the separators to keep the mobo away from the case? Did a loose screw get left in and is causing a short to the case?

We can't tell for sure, but there definitely is something wrong. Did you install the motherboard properly? Are all required posts installed and has any post that shouldn't be been removed to prevent shorting the motherboard? Disassemble everything, put the motherboard on a non-conductive surface and try it again. That will at least tell you if it was shorting out to the case.
