Hello friends currently I have the ASUS P7P55D motherboard and I want to upgrade my gpu I have 1 5770 and I want to upgrade with another 5770 but the p55 have only support for 1 pci express 16 lanes the second will use only 8 lanes? Can i expect some minimal improvements or even worse lower performance because bandwidth problems

With some P55 boards, the second slot drops down to 8x, or 4x. At 8x bandwidth, the majority of graphics cards aren't affected, only the HD 5970 and GTX 480 will see any noticeable performance losses. However, IIRC, the ASUS P7P55D motherboard splits the lane into 16x & 4x, which will greatly impact on your HD 5770's graphical performance in CrossFireX.

Hi newcomer and welcome to the Tom's hardware forum.

Like Lmeow says, the 2nd PCI-E line only can works @ x4 that is the same that don't have a Crossfire. In that case could be better re-sell ur current 5770 and go with a single 5850.

None, with only one GPU installed in the 1st slot u don't have any problem but be sure that u have a very good CPU for the 5970 or u could have a bottleneck of ur GPU.
