My external drive wont play or read quickly it hang

Hello,
my external hard drive fall slightly and after that it will not read quickly and ti hang and wont read the files what should ido need to format or what?

if your external hard drive fell while using for data (reading/writing) the magnetic drive head inside hit against the hard disk plates scratching it and thereby destroying your drive. you should hear some clicking noises as the drive head is stuck not being able to go back to its original position
