The i7 or Phenom II would both perform similarly at higher resolutions, if gaming is all you do it doesnt matter which way you go processor-wise, but if going for the Phenom II tricore lets you get a better GPU you will get better gaming performance.

Well Xeon already out of the question.

For the phenom ii, Are you getting a phenom II x3 and overclocking it or Phenom II x4 965? Only cpu from AMD that @3.6GHz stock is Phenom ii x4 965.

Although unless you're playing a game that can use all 8 threads, (like FSX) core i7 is overkill. I would recommend core i5 750 as it practically performs the same as core i7 (due to game not using all the resources of the cpu) and it much cheaper.

I'm just wondering how you came to these 3 choices.?? So confused.

1. not overclocked, quad core
2. overclocked, triple core
3. low clock, xeon, ecc memory(correct me if im wrong), expensive

By the nature of you choices, I would say go i7. Can't go wrong.

I agree. The options are quite odd and not at par to each other. But I voted anyway.
Both 1 and 2 are good. If the question is what is better, I would both differently of course.
