I am installing a new Samsung 930 SSD to an ASUS P8Z77-V motherboard and I have the option of using either Intel Z77 6.0 GB/s or Marvell 9128 6.0 GB/s. What is the difference between the two and which one would give better performance?

Best solution

You will get maximum performance with your SSD connected to the native Intel 6Gb/s ports.

You will get reduced performance with your SSD on the Marvell 6Gb/s ports.
The Marvell 9128 controller has a maximum data bandwidth of PCIe x1 at 5Gb/s (500MB/s).

Yes the Intel® controller is the much better option. I don't know why they didn't include a second Intel controller over using the Marvell.
