Foxconn CR-N1 card reader

I have one of these ^^ but all that happens when I put an SD card in is the light flicks off on the card reader for about half a second. I have all the drivers according to device manager and Windows Update. It is a 5-pin (one blank) usb (USB 1.1?) connector plugged into the 4-pin side of a 9-pin USB 2.0 connector on my mobo, I have no other cards to try and cannot find CR-N1 drivers manually to try and install myself. Anybody know whay its doing this?

Managed to find an old memory stick and an old smart media card and both work fine, also the SD card works in another card reader in another PC, maybe it is faulty?
