What are the advantages/disadvantages of getting an ATX board over a MiniATX board or any other size board?

Size.

In all seriousness, getting a larger board means that you have more space to expand...more PCI slots, more RAM slots, etc. Obviously, an ATX board isn't going to fit into the smallest cases, but if you don't have a case yet, that's not a real concern.

ATX boards usually have better layouts, primarily because of the extra space.
