Hey All,
Anyone care to comment on this build-in-progress for editing?
Premiere CS4, possible Avid, DV video (HD).

Asus P6X58D
G. Skill PI series 6 x 2gb
i7 920
EVGA GeForce 250
Win 7 ultimate
Coolermaster storm scout
Coolermaster V8
Antec 850w
Lite-On dvd

Intel X25 80gb SSD = OS/Apps
2x WD Caviar Black 500gb scratch in RAID 0
2x Hitachi deathstar 2tb storage in RAID 1

2x 20" Monitors = ???

Effective set-up? Is my mirrored storage good enough to skip a backup?
Any input is appreciated!

(Why storm scout? Portability - mid size with a handle).

Looks really "droolie" ...

You know SSDs are gonna put your RAIDs outta business by xmas, right ??

Try a Corsair P128 for scratch (flas latest firmware and always leave 20% free for TRIM Mangmnt

... Hope you are gettin a great price on the 20 ... else go 30

I kinda doubt it. Sounds to me like SSD efficiency degrades over time with multiple writes. No data will be written (by me) to the OS drive.
I want to give one a try but don't want to design a system around an un-time-tested tech.

Thanks for the feedback!

Sounds like you know what you know ...

... I'm giving it a try. That degradation thing happens at 5yrs.

... I'll letcha know ... Enjoy your RAIDs!

When it comes to SSD's, I only know what I read.
Which I suppose makes it hearsay.

Naw ... It's good dope ... I just think it's old dope.

TRIM keeps everything all fresh and MUCH more reliable (not to mention way faster).

How long did you think those Arrays were gonna last, before catastrophic crash.

... No matter ... it's just scratch ... Anyway ... MY SSDs will start slowing down (just a little after the 1st "fill up" ... then stay steady until it starts to degrade ... about 5 yrs ... you see a few bad reads ... and it stops writing ... you can still read it and back it up for months after. Much faster ... more reliable ... no need to short-stroke or make that fast outer partition ... cause the whole thing rocks.

Be sure to leave 20% free for TRIM Management (always) ... It refreshes the "erased" cells in background mode.

Whatever ... better the enemy you know ... huh ??
