Hello, My old computer operated on NT and the Motherboard fried. Hard drive is fine but can i purchase a new machine with windows 7 and recover the data from old drive

Yes, but you'll need another hdd as well. Plug the NT drive in once you have win7 installed and copy the data over.
Another issue you'll have is finding a mobo these days that supports IDE. You might need a card or SATA to IDE adapter.
