Hi, This is Shubhankar.

The forum has of great help to me. I m here to ask abt which of the following Graphics cards are better. ?

1. XFX Radeon HD 4890 with core clock 850 Mhz.
2. XFX Radeon HD 5770 with core clock 850 Mhz.
3. XFX Radeon HD 5870 with core clock 850 MHz.

All the above mentioned graphics cards have the same core clock. Plz tell me the current prices and which one is better . Can anyone tell me the difference between HD 5770 and 5870 both have the same core and memory clock speeds ??

Solution
Bro, the core clock is important, but the ARCHITECTURE is MUCH more important.

Lets compare it to cars – 3 engines, all rev to 8,000 revolutions per minute, rpm. Are they equally powerful? NO. They have 4-cylinders, 8-cylinders and 12-cylinders, respectively.
So, even if the 4 cylinder revs to 8000, 4 cylinders are weak.
But 8 cylinders going at 8000 is fast, and 12 is INSANE.
Get me? = )

So, Assume the 5770, 5850 and 5870 all have the same clocks, ok? BUT THEY DON'T HAVE THE SAME ARCHITECTURE.

CARD Config Core (Unified Shaders: Texture mapping unit: Render Output unit)
4890 800:40:16
5770 800:40:16
5850 1440:72:32
5870 1600:80:32

So you see; the 5870 is the most powerful; it is EXACTLY TWO 5770’s.

Now, the 4890 seems the...

Very Very Thanks to you for the reply. HD 5850 seems a bit more priced than the other two. Now can you tell me out of HD 4890 and HD 5770 which is better ? Because as such HD 4890 is bit older than HD 5770 but still it is having a higher price tag ? Why ? And which is the best decisive factor for selecting a graphics card core clock or something else I can look for ??

So you see; the 5870 is the most powerful; it is EXACTLY TWO 5770’s.

Now, the 4890 seems the same as the 5770, but it’s not. It’s not just the Configuration Core that determines how good a card is, it’s a few other things; one of them is Bus Width (which is measured in BITS); the 4890 is made on a 256 bit bus, but the 5770 is made on a 128 bit bus.
So purely based on gaming performance, which renders more frames, the 4890 is more powerful.
BUT, the 5770 has NEWER Architecture, so u can plug it to 3 monitors, it can run DirectX11 and it consumes A LOT LESS POWER, therefore less HEAT, so it’s less NOISY.

The 4890 consumes 60 W when idle and 190 W at maximum.
The 5770 consumes 18 W when idle and 108 W at maximum (almost half the 4890).

So, YOU must decide which is better, depending on what your criteria are. Overall, the 5770 is the better product, but the 4890 is a little more powerful form a purely gaming perspective.

Good luck.

Peace.

Most welcome, bhai.

And shubham1401 is correct; if you tell us your entire budget, and the size and maximum resolution of the monitor you intend to buy, we can then better advise you on what to buy.

Btw, 920 is definately better than a 661.
Btw2, make sure to buy a motherboard that has Sata 6 Gb/s and a few USB 3.0 slots.

I have been having nothing but trouble with the 5770. I am about to fix it with a hammer. I can't say that you will have problems with it, but read the AMD support forums re: this card before you buy it. If I had it to do over again, I would DEFINITELY go with the 4890. I have to RMA my 5770, and if I am able, I am just going to use nVidia, I've had it with ATI.

Ok Fine then. 50k is my budget for the CPU only(processor motherboard and graphics card etc......and " no HDD "). I already have 7 or 8 hdd's. I have a monitor of 22" having 1920*1080 resolution and I intend to play games like Crysis, Crysis Warhead, CS Source COD 4 5 6 and Bad Company 2 many other on maxed out settings. That's my aim for the CPU.
Plz suggest me the configuration.

If you can also wait till NVIDIA's new GFX cards are released around the end of the month. You may see a price drop. Although I am unfamilar with your market in India. I am going to upgrade to a 5850 from a 9800 GTX. Just hoping a price cut will happen at the end of the month :)
