Looking for a nice CPU config for gamming

Solution
If it's for gaming, the Phenom II 955 is just as good and cheaper. Also the good AM3 mobos are cheaper than the 1156 mobos and you'll be able to upgrade to 6 core cpus. Check the Homebuilt Systems forum, there are lots of ideas. IMO you should go Phenom II 955 + HD5770, for gaming the most important is the video card, not the CPU. For instance, the cheap Athlon II X3 440 + HD5770 is better than the i5 + HD5750.

Don't look at syntetic benchmarks, the only thing that matters is how they perform with REAL games.
From the same review:

By the way, didn't you read the conclusion of the article?

"One very important discovery made during this review is that if you have a high-end video card, the CPU has almost no influence in the system gaming performance. So if you are building a high-end gaming machine, maybe it is better to pick a cheaper processor and invest the price difference on a faster video card."

depends on what you are expecting from the gpu.

if you want a high end card your budget of $400 US will be almost blown by the card.

so IMO mosox has the best solution to your problem for the moment. If you pick a mobo with integrated video right now you will stay within budget.

that adds up to the fact that you can play games right now (at lower resolution and graphics), save some money the next few months and buy a good (and often more expensive) GPU later like a 5770 or even 5850 depending on the amount of money you would like to spend

good luck
